There is nothing quite as frustrating as investing in a beautiful scented candle, only to
watch it burn straight down the middle, leaving a thick ring of unused wax on the sides.
This phenomenon, known as "tunneling," not only ruins the aesthetic of your stunning
candle glass but also drastically cuts down the total burn time.
The solution starts with the very first burn. Wax has a "memory." When you light a new
candle for the first time, you must let it burn long enough for the entire top layer of wax to
melt completely to the edges of the jar. For our signature Fiorance Luxe crystal jar candles,
this typically takes about two to three hours. If you extinguish the flame prematurely, the
candle will remember that smaller wax pool and tunnel downwards on subsequent burns.
If your candle has already started to tunnel, don't worry. You can fix it using the "foil
method." Carefully wrap a piece of aluminum foil around the top of the candle glass,
leaving a hole in the center for the wick to breathe. The foil traps the heat, encouraging the
hard edge wax to melt evenly. Keep your wicks trimmed to 1/4 inch before every lighting,
and your aroma candles will provide a flawless, enduring glow from the first light to the
last drop.
